We will learn how to spec a green roof soil system for several green roof types by analyzing the plant palette and weight limit.  Later, we determine soil profiles, depths and system build-ups to design an efficient long-term, successful soil system for a green roof.

Using Planters to Create a Dynamic Amenity Space for a Lasting Design

This course will teach you the fundamentals of planter soil systems, including the system build-up, the benefits of planter soil systems, and how planters can enhance your designs and project goals. You will also learn about soil horizons, saturated weight classes, and specifications.

  • Learn the benefits of using an all-in-one planter soil system.
  • Learn the design advantages of integrating planters into your projects.
  • Learn about soil horizons and saturated media weight.

He has 20+ years of experience in the green industry, which have included introducing the Knock Out® family of shrub roses, designing and selling beautiful landscape enhancements, and selling perennials, shrubs, and trees to independent garden centers throughout the Mid-Atlantic U.S. He is happily married for 15 years and a proud father of two beautiful children, Phoenix and Aspen. When he is not working to beautify the planet with green roofs, he enjoys spending time gardening, bike-packing, and camping with his family.

He has been a part of five award-winning landscape displays at the Philadelphia Flower Show and also worked with one of the premier Mid-Atlantic container nurseries, The Conard-Pyle Company. Herb joined Skyland USA in 2018 and earned his GRP certification in less than 6 months. On weekends if Herb isn’t baking in the kitchen, he is out hiking with his Yorkie, Salem.
