PRODUCT PHILOSOPHY

We take soil seriously. It’s what we do every day, and we know that you need the best to make your green roof project a success. That’s why our rooflite® soil products are at the core of everything we do.

We use a sophisticated, proprietary process to produce rooflite that has been developed through many years of experience. Our rooflite soil products are both standardized – created with propriety and consistent mixes to ensure long-term quality and success – and sourced, produced, and shipped by region based on regionally available materials and conditions. And we design them to last. Our first green roof project was installed in 2005 and is still thriving!

Committed to Innovation

At rooflite, we embrace innovation and make it an integral part of our daily work. We are always striving to be better at our jobs and improve how we develop, test, produce and ship our rooflite soil products. We’ve developed a number of innovative methods from our blender network and material sourcing, propriety soil mixes, media compaction testing, and logistics capabilities, just to name a few. We believe we have an obligation to give the green roof industry the best growth media possible, and we make innovation and improvement part of what we do every day.

Designed for ASTM & FLL Guidelines

rooflite soil products are designed and produced according to ASTM E2777-14* and the FLL** Green Roofing Guideline. The test methods and performance standards we use are considered state-of-the-art within the worldwide green roof industry, backed by decades of testing, research and development in the field.

Validated with Quality Assurance Program

We’ve developed a rigorous Quality Assurance Program (QAP) to make sure that every bit of rooflite soil we produce and deliver meets our high standards and the high expectations of our customers. With a proprietary mix for each product, we are able to guarantee that every batch of rooflite soil produced is consistent across all our blender network.

Our QAP involves both internal and independent laboratories to ensure the performance of our soil. Our internal lab analyzes our rooflite soil products on a regular schedule to ensure they will stand up to demanding green roof applications throughout the life of a building. Independent labs validate compliance with established green roof media specifications and performance requirements.

We’ve designed our QAP to deliver the best products possible to our customers and to ensure they will perform well over many years.

Created for Sustainability Goals

Green roofs have a number of sustainable benefits, including managing stormwater and sewer runoff, mitigating the urban heat island effect, improving air quality, and re-establishing nature in urban areas for a higher quality of life.

But the green roofs have to survive and thrive in order for a building, neighborhood and city to realize all these benefits. And the key to creating a thriving green roof? rooflite soil. We design our soil products to meet the sustainability goals of a green roof. With perfectly-balanced physical and chemical properties, our rooflite soil has excellent water retention capacity to maximize stormwater retention and evapo-transpiration, and it’s optimized for healthy plant growth.

Assist with LEED Certification

With a strategic blender network across the Americas, we are within 500 miles of almost every green roof project in North America. As a USGBC Corporate Member, we know that LEED Certification is an important goal for many projects that include green roofs. While every project is unique in the LEED credits possible, a green roof made with rooflite soil can potentially contribute to credits for Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Material and Resource, and Regional Materials.

Many of our projects have achieved LEED Certification.  We can even help you determine applicable LEED credits!
