rooflite® intensive

An engineered growing media designed for intensive green roofs, rooftop gardens, container gardens and planters. rooflite® intensive is the ideal media for long lasting and healthy plant growth including ground covers, ornamental grasses, shrubs and trees.

For intensive green roofs, the growing media is fairly deep – usually more than 1 foot – and even supports shrubs and trees. A roof top garden or a patio is an example of an intensive green roof. The saturated weight depends on the depth of the green roof system and may exceed 70 pounds per square foot. Taller plants like shrubs and trees will need irrigation in most cases.

rooflite® intensive is also available in a version optimized for rooftop farming. For details, please visit: rooflite® intensive ag.

rooflite® intensive can also be used in combination with rooflite® drain or any other adequate drainage system.

Planters and containers can be considered miniature green roof systems. Because root space is limited, using a high performance growing media is crucial for plant growth. rooflite® intensive will not lose volume and will enhance the health and longevity of your precious plants.

Quality Assurance

Production of rooflite® is a series of sophisticated, proprietary processes. Every production partner in the rooflite® Regional Network is licensed to manufacture rooflite® Certified Green Roof Media. Our technical team sources the highest quality and most cost-effective regionally available raw materials including Hydrocks® Calcined Clay. Laboratory analysis verifies these materials will stand up[...]

Volume & Compaction

All rooflite® products are sold by volume and measured in cubic yard units (or cubic meters where applicable). When estimating rooflite® quantities, the required finished depth or thickness is just as critical a measure as the area to cover. Unlike other roofing materials, green roof growth media will compact, and this compaction factor must be planned for when estimating your needs. With multiple [...]

Packaging Options & Delivery

rooflite® products are available loose in bulk or packaged in crane strapped super sacks from every location. Limited locations provide small bag packaging and palletizing. Super sacks size can vary depending on production location and typical bulk density, with average sizes from 1.5 to 2.0 cubic yards per sack. Super sacks are most often delivered via flatbed tractor trailer, but [...]
